Educate your self

When purchasing carpet it is important to educate your self. When it comes to my opinion I am happy to give it. I have been in the carpet industry for a LONG time and while I am not the Most educated person, I am happy to share the education that I do have. So for me personally here is what I would do.

#1- You live at your house, so GET WHAT YOU WANT but make an educated choice. You don't have to get what is trendy or what your mom or kids say that you should get. You live at your house, you are going to pay for your carpet so GET WHAT YOU WANT.

#2- Bare feet are so rough on your carpet.  I can not over stress this, but if you are going to walk on your carpet with bare feet MAINTAIN your flooring. I have 2 examples that I like to use for this.

Bare feet-
I wear sandals and at the end of the day I take off my shoes and my feet are DIRTY. Then I walk all over my beautiful carpet and it so graciously cleans my feet.  The oils from my feet continue to collect dirt and make your carpet look... AWFUL. So if you are going to take off your shoes then make sure to clean your carpet.

Maintenance-
Your carpet is like your clothing. If you have a something pull on your shirt and stretch it out a little you know that you can wash your shirt and it will be like new. If you stretch your shirt and stretch your shirt and it has gone past the point where it can be saved... it is to late.  Your carpet it the same.  If you clean it regularly then it will maintain its beautiful appearance. When your carpet gets used, used, and used and it looks awful when you clean it then a new memory has been made.  If you clean it when the new memory has been made then it will look good for a week or so then it will go back to its new (matted) memory.

#3- What style of carpet do you like? Bring a picture of a Pinterest post or a friends house, it doesnt matter. Walking into a carpet store is overwhelming, there are thousands of choices for color, texture, yarn, or pattern.  If you have an idea it is easier for us to help you, if you don't have an idea that is okay we can find something that you like.

#4- Fiber types do matter, but so does the construction of the flooring.  Personally I look to see how tight the twist is in my opinion "the tighter the twist, the better the wear" when you have a blown out twist the carpet will blossom and look worn out. Each fiber has a place in the industry. Nylon and Polyester are the main take in the market, each of them have great benefits.  It is also important to know what type of clean ability your carpet has. Carpet has some type of clean ability now days and if I am being honest most of them are pretty great. This section gets really complicated, come on by and we are more than happy to go deeper into it.  We can take into consideration what you have going on at your house (kids, animals, rentals).

Get what you want but be smart about it. Live on you flooring how it would make you happy. Make sure that you MAINTAIN your carpet. I can not stress this enough. Rule of thumb.. Get your carpet cleaned at least 1 time per year and maybe more if you are a bare foot family. The chart below is a guideline.

I hope that this is helpful. I am hoping to go into more depth on carpet education, this is a rough outline for people starting out.
